Vanessa Freitag is a soft sculpture artist who uses various textile techniques - sewing, crochet, embroidery and weaving - and recycled materials to build organic shapes that are often imaginary and undefined. Her work alludes to flora and fauna from her upbringing in Brazil as well as her surroundings in Mexico where she lives and works. Childhood memories of her grandmother, artisanal processes, urban gardens, and feminine identity are some of her sources of inspiration. She explores the symbiotic relationship between past and present, between Brazil and Mexico, and between various living organisms and the cityscape. The end result is an imaginary garden that allows her to stay connected to her origins and ease the longing of living far from her homeland. She has participated in several group shows in Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Ukraine, and the United States.
